Ingredients
  • 12 • lasagna noodles
  • 1 pound • ground beef
  • 1 pound • Italian sausage
  • 1 • onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves • garlic, minced
  • 2 cans • tomato sauce (15 ounces each)
  • 1 can • crushed tomatoes (15 ounces)
  • 2 cans • tomato paste (6 ounces each)
  • 2 tablespoons • sugar
  • 1 teaspoon • dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon • dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon • salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon • black pepper
  • 3 cups • ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups • shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup • grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 • egg, beaten
  • • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
Instructions
  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook Noodles: Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  3. Make Meat Sauce: In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, sausage, onion, and garlic over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat. Add the tomato sauce, crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 30 minutes.
  4. Prepare Cheese Mixture: In a bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, 1 cup of mozzarella cheese, 1/2 cup of Parmesan cheese, and the beaten egg.
  5. Assemble Lasagna: Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Layer with 4 lasagna noodles, half of the ricotta mixture, half of the remaining meat sauce, and a third of the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses. Repeat layers. Top with remaining noodles and meat sauce. Sprinkle with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses.
  6. Bake: Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
