THE FOOD SAFETY EXAM IDAHO FOOD CODE
The Idaho food code sets the standard for the food safety exam in Idaho. Preventable foodborne viruses in the United States results in over 48 million illnesses and approximately 3,000 deaths per year. Education and health controls are imperative to fighting food contamination and poor sanitation. Food safety certification was created to address the following 5 risk factors:
— Equipment that is contaminated
— Improper holding temperatures
— Undercooked foods or inadequate cooking
— Unsafe sources of food
— Poor personal hygiene
Updates to Codes and Industry Rules
While the normal length of time for certification is 5 years, it is the responsibility of the certificate holder to stay abreast of any new or changing codes that come into effect. New procedures, updated temperature settings, frequency of sanitizing surfaces, and non-continuous cooking of raw foods, and many other changes were made to the Idaho Food Code on July 1, 2018. If your certification test was taken before this date, you are still required to follow the new codes.
