Delaware TIPS Certification

In an industry that reaps benefits from hospitality and beverages flowing freely at every social gathering, it can hardly be overstated the case for responsible sales of alcoholic beverages. Thus, Delaware TIPS Certification comes as a lighthouse to safe service and sales in the First State, with its acronym standing for “Training for Intervention Procedures.”. This comprehensive program not only equips alcohol servers and sellers with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complicated world of beverage service but also serves as a valuable means to promote public safety and prevent possible harms arising from alcohol consumption.

The Delaware TIPS Certification is an integral part of the state’s approach to dealing with responsible service and sales of alcohol. This program does a lot more than teach bartenders how to pour drinks; it takes an active approach in dealing with underage drinking, overconsumption, and intoxicated patrons. It equips those working in the alcohol industry with the ability to recognize potential problems, to defuse situations that could escalate, and to ensure the safety of both customers and the community.

Is TIPS Certification Mandatory in the State of Delaware?

Under Delaware’s Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement, servers and sellers of alcohol must undergo a Responsible Server Training course approved by the state. In other words, if you want to tend bar in Delaware, it is a LEGAL REQUIREMENT that you successfully pass a state-approved server training program.

We will equip you with the knowledge and ability to serve alcohol in a safe and responsible manner. Whether you’re a seasoned employee or new to the business, it’s our goal to help you create a fun and safe environment for your patrons. Delaware takes responsible alcohol service seriously, and by the end of this training, you will be better equipped to do your part in keeping our communities safe while promoting responsible drinking.

What is actually the Servers Responsibility?

When an individual becomes licensed to serve and sell alcohol, they are taking on a tremendous public responsibility: the responsibility to serve alcohol responsibly. Although some states have Dram Shop Laws, note that Delaware at this time does not. The state does have Civil/Tort Statutes which can, theoretically be used to hold servers responsible.

It’s important that servers recognize that a failure to exercise their duty to comply with the laws and regulations of the State of Delaware can have consequences far more serious than an appearance in criminal court and the imposition of a fine. It could, in fact, become a full-blown civil litigation, with the risk of a judgment containing punitive damages in a substantial amount.

What job opportunities can one pursue with TIPS Alcohol Server Certification?

In fact, if you have completed your alcohol seller certification, then you are assured of having the best job opportunity, as the employers will be aware that you already are well trained with the laws and best practices on serving alcohol responsibly. Here are some establishments you can get a job at with your alcohol server-seller certificate:
– Restaurants and brewpubs
– Hotels
– Members-only clubs
– Sporting facilities
– Liquor stores

In July 1991, House Bill #65 was passed in Delaware which requires training for serving alcohol in the state. The training is conducted by the Division of Alcohol & Tobacco Enforcement at least once a week in each county.
